Happy Summer to our NCDE Civitans!
Though this summer has proven to be one of our more challenging, it has not stopped you from continuing to find ways to connect with each other and your communities. I have been enjoying my conversations with your club presidents and presidents-elect and appreciate those invites to your meetings. Your club leaders also had the opportunity to engage in a Town Hall Meeting on June 29 with Civitan International President-Elect Frank Kelley.
I have learned so much about your commitment and true Civitan spirit. I was thrilled that so many of our clubs participated in the Civitan International Beach Bash Party theme for those that you serve on Saturday, July 25 during the International Convention. I am so appreciative and inspired by how you continue to make changes to meet and engage in your community work.
At the district level, we have also been working on changes. Your Planning and Research Committee has been discussing our current club Awards Program. A survey was sent to your club presidents for feedback and recommendations on this program. Your input is especially important to making the final decisions on recommendations to come to the NCDE Board. The planning and research committee is also studying our current district areas to determine if we need to make any changes so that your elected directors can work with all clubs that are assigned to their area. We have also been working behind the scenes to develop a new website which will be unveiled at the August 22 virtual district meeting.
Your NCDE Board took action to ensure the safety of our membership when it came to our scheduled August convention. The shortened virtual version scheduled for August 22 will still provide you with district updates, including your District team with one exception. We are not prepared to vote virtually in August. The Board has determined that we will have a special called convention during our regular fall district-wide meeting. The Marriott Crabtree in Raleigh has agreed to an addendum on our current August convention agreement to accommodate us on November 21, 2020 for a one-day meeting and will be able to meet all social distancing and safety requirements. Should we not be able to meet in person due to continued COVID19 restrictions, then we will have our policy changes and emergency provisions in place to allow us to conduct our elections virtually if needed.
On October 1, Governor Deryl will move into the Immediate Past Governor role and I will move into the Governor role as determined by our elections held at the annual convention in New Bern last August. Our current Area Directors will continue to serve until our November elections. So that does give those that are planning to run for GovernorElect or Area Directors till October 21 to turn in those nomination forms. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions. I look forward to “seeing” all of you at our August 22 virtual district meeting!
