Creative Civitan Awards

Eleanor Award WinnerCreative Civitan Club awards a college scholarship each year. This scholarship, entitled the Creative Civitan – Withrow Memorial Scholarship was established in 2003 in memory of club members, Jim and Bernice Withrow. As a way of honoring their memory, we provide a $1,000 scholarship to a recent high school graduate who exemplifies academic excellence, leadership and ommunity involvement. This year our recipient is Eleanor C.

Eleanor graduated from Carrboro High School with a 4.05 GPA. She received numerous academic awards including the National Spanish Examination Silver Award and Carrboro High School Certificate of Excellence in Special Education. In high school, Eleanor was very involved in theater, music and the Peer Buddy Club, which is a club dedicated to the inclusion of students with special needs. Eleanor will be attending Appalachian State University in the fall. Her goal is to pursue a career helping those with Autism by attaining a PhD in Clinical Psychology. We are thrilled to have met such an outstanding young person who has already made both a difference in her community and with individuals with special needs.
